Floyd House
History
Reputedly built in 1858,
perhaps by Charles Hunt, a miner from Massachusetts who lived there prior
to 1858 and through the 1860’s. By 1875 and until the 20th Century
the house was owned by Enos Floyd, principal and teacher at Murphys School.
The house was renovated and remodeled in 1969. A two-story house
with one-story wings on either side, shiplap siding on lower floor.
Clapboard on wings and top floor. A front porch with carved posts
extends the length of the building. The bargeboard trim on the upper
eaves and over the upper window seems to have been added later. Windows
in front are eight-paned, six-paned on sides, doors paneled; there is a
shed roof in rear and a picket fence surrounds the property.
Note: The Floyd House is
number 23 on the Murphy’s Historic Walking Tour & Map.
